Career Profile
Paddy Ryder had already played senior football in the WAFL before being drafted to Essendon. He was also named in the All-Australian U18 side in 2005 and represented the AIS/AFL Academy in Ireland.
He is a tall ruckman or key position player who showed enough in his first nine games of his debut season to give Essendon confidence he will develop into a quality player. He is strong overhead, has a huge leap and is regarded as a future star in the making.
Ryder played 21 games in 2007, playing mostly in the backline, with his skills and agility combining well with the experience of Mal Michael and Dustin Fletcher.
He had another solid year in 2008 playing all 22 games for the season.
Draft History: 2005 NAB AFL Draft 1st round selection (Essendon) No. 7 overall Player Honours: NAB AFL Rising Star nominee 2007. |
